The City of Mound is a Statutory Class B City, with an elected City Council that is under the direction of the City Manager in charge of carrying out decisions and providing day-to-day services.
The Village of Mound was incorporated in 1912, and originally derived its name from the Indian mounds once found within the city limits. Early on, Mound was known as Mound City with a bustling business district on the shore of Cooks Bay. In 1900, the railroad passed through the north and gave way to the business district that Mound is known for today.
